The historic aquarium, the popular World of Coca-Cola Museum, and the magnificent Atlanta Botanical Garden are just a few of the prominent attractions in Georgia’s largest city. With 50 million visitors every year, clever travelers may be more interested in discovering the city’s hidden gems rather than the crowded hot sites. Consider some of these off-the-beaten-path locales, from an imaginative coffeehouse to a museum that gets better after dark, if you’re a return visitor who wants to experience another side of The Big Peach — or a beginner who doesn’t want to fight the crowds. Your next trip to Atlanta will undoubtedly be unforgettable!

Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee

Atlanta’s own Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee, with two handy locations in Inman Park and Decatur, is the ideal venue to savor gourmet coffee and imaginative pastry dishes. The peach is Georgia’s state fruit, and Revolution’s doughnut slider, which is normally only available during the summer, is a delightful new way to savor the famed fruit. Even if it isn’t on the menu, you can stop in at any time of year for seasonally appropriate and reasonably priced delicacies; pastries typically run from $2 to $4. Doughnut tastes like blackberry cornmeal, caramel bacon, and carrot cake are some of the other exciting possibilities.

West Midtown

This once-forgotten neighborhood is now one of the hottest spots to reside in the city. West Midtown is churning with potential, with a handful of new enterprises and more on the way. The region, which straddles Buckhead, Midtown, and Downtown, provides inhabitants with a very convenient living environment, with the finest of the city’s amenities just a short distance away. 

West Midtown is brimming with fantastic condominiums and houses for rent in Atlanta GA. Many of the area’s historic structures have been repaired and are being converted into new residential and commercial areas, giving West Midtown a new lease on life. The neighborhood has a mix of dive bars and fancy cocktail bars, as well as Westside Provisions, which has a number of unique retail and dining options.

Gilly Brew Bar

Gilly Brew Bar, perhaps my personal favorite on our list of Atlanta’s hidden jewels, is a must-visit for visitors to the neighborhood. It’s in Stone Mountain, a small suburb on the city’s eastern outskirts. In reality, this inventive coffee shop is built-in Stone Mountain’s oldest structure, the former mayor’s residence. The specialized cocktails, known as elixirs, are handcrafted in-house using cutting-edge ingredients that change seasonally.

Fernbank After Dark

While the Fernbank Museum of Natural History is well-known, some of its programmings aren’t, particularly the Fernbank After Dark series of monthly adult science events. For individuals aged 21 and up, these events include exciting hands-on museum activities, small nibbles, and specialty cocktails. The Fernbank After Dark event has a different theme each month to guide the evening. “Booze and Botanicals” and “Art and Science” were two previous topics. Exhibits, special learning opportunities, and live music are all included in the entrance price, which is less than $20. On-site dining and refreshments are offered.
